Supporting Our Littles Through Key Initiatives – The Voice of Business

On July 16th, 2024, our CEO Connie Askin was featured on The Voice of Business Radio Show, presented by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. During the show, she discussed the following topics:

Our FAFSA Initiative

This summer has been exceptionally busy for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest (BBBS CMMW), particularly with our new FAFSA initiative. The rollout of the FAFSA application was delayed for months, and when it was finally released, a critical error inflated family income calculations, reducing students' federal aid eligibility. This error directly affects the Littles in our programs, and we are committed to providing the necessary support.

Affordability remains the number one issue for college hopefuls. Many students are less likely to enroll in college without the financial resources to do so. Furthermore, those who delay their studies are much less likely to complete their degree. Our FAFSA initiative aims to support young adults during this crucial transitional period, ensuring they have the financial assistance they need to pursue higher education. We are currently reaching out to our Littles who are of the appropriate age and offering personalized assistance with the FAFSA application.

The Rodman Ride for Kids

We are also excited about our participation in the Rodman Ride for Kids. BBBS CMMW is one of the 40 charity partners supported by the Rodman Ride, an event that offers multiple ways to get involved. Riders can choose to ride either 25 or 50 miles. For those who prefer not to bike, there are virtual options that allow participants to pledge any activity they enjoy. For example, the Holy Cross rowing team rows in support of our cause.

A special highlight this year is that our CEO, Connie, will be riding in the event! She extends a warm invitation to everyone to either ride with her or participate in their own way. It's a fantastic opportunity to get active and support our mission to help children and young adults achieve their full potential.

We are thrilled to engage our community through these initiatives and appreciate the support of everyone involved. Together, we can make a significant impact on the lives of our Littles and ensure they have the resources and opportunities to succeed.
